Claudia Black is an Australian American actress. Born and raised in Sydney, New South Wales, she studied at the Anglican Kambala School in Sydney. Over the years, she has lived in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

Black began her acting career in her native Australia, landing her first leading role as Claire Bonacci in the long-running television drama A Country Practice.

In 1999, she was cast as Aeryn Sun in the science fiction series Farscape, a co-production between the United States and Australia. The role brought her international recognition and earned her Saturn Award nominations for Best Actress in 2001, 2002, and 2005, winning the award in 2005. During this period, she also appeared in the feature film Pitch Black.

She reprised her role as Aeryn Sun in the 2004 miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars. That same year, she guest-starred as Vala Mal Doran in the Stargate SG-1 episode “Prometheus Unbound.” Her performance was so well received that she returned in a recurring role during the ninth season and became a regular cast member for the tenth and final season. She also appeared in the feature-length films Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.

Black has appeared in numerous television series in the United States, including a recurring role in The Originals. In 2023, she portrayed Klothow in the first season of the Star Wars series Ahsoka, and she is currently starring as Cossutia in the Starz series Spartacus: House of Ashur.

Since the early 2000s, Black has built an extensive and highly acclaimed career as a voice actress in video games. She is particularly renowned for her collaborations with BioWare, voicing Morrigan in the Dragon Age series and Admiral Daro’Xen and Matriarch Aethyta in the Mass Effect franchise. She also portrayed Chloe Frazer in the Uncharted series and Samantha Byrne in Gears of War.
