Ben Browder is an American actor, writer, and film director. He attended Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Furman University. He later continued his studies in dramatic arts at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, where he met his future wife, actress Francesca Buller.
After working in theatre, including classical Shakespearean productions, Browder began landing smaller film roles. He appeared as a captain in the war film Memphis Belle (1990) and as the main character’s temporary boyfriend in A Kiss Before Dying (1991), starring alongside Sean Young and Matt Dillon. He first gained wider recognition among television audiences with his role as Sam in the series Party of Five (1994).
A breakthrough in his career came in 1999, when Jim Henson Productions, in collaboration with the Sci-Fi Channel, launched the cult science fiction series Farscape. Browder starred as American astronaut John Crichton, a role that earned him two Saturn Awards for Best Actor in a Television Role.
In 2005, he returned to the Sci-Fi Channel as Colonel Cameron Mitchell in the ninth and tenth seasons of Stargate SG-1, where he became the new leader of the SG-1 team. In addition to his acting work, Browder also performed many of his own stunt scenes.
